They always have such an interesting and exciting space that showcases what can be achieved with colour. So get your cup of coffee and let's find out about this years show. Make sure to read till the end and enter the ticket giveaway.

From 18 to 21 March, visitors to this year’s Decorex Durban – co-sponsored by Plascon and Caesarstone –  are in for a feast of new décor features and enticing food in addition to the popular exhibitions that will embody the 2017 ‘Make your space your living dream’ theme.

“We are very excited to announce an all-new line-up of features at the Durban leg of Decorex this year,” said Sian Cullingworth, Portfolio Director of Decorex SA. “Decorex SA always seeks to enhance the visitors’ experience year on year which means keeping our innovative exhibitions while constantly introducing relevant, new features to this premier décor and design show.”
For the foodies there is a range of enticing options to keep the palate satisfied such as the decadent TREAT Ice-cream + Dessert Bar. Swimming in shakes, ice cream sandwiches and macaroons, visitors can find every refreshing ice cream and decadent treat conceivable. But if it’s the rich aroma of quality coffee you’re searching for then a stop at The Coffee Cup by Illy will keep you going while browsing the myriad of living dream décor.
Known for its exceptional daytime cuisine, Boiler Room Café will extend its phenomenal fair into Decorex Durban, offering fulfilling meals for people on the go. The café’s roast truck will also provide enticing rotisserie options. And, for the gin connoisseurs and those looking for superior distilled beverages, then the Craft Gin and Cocktail Bar will ensure all thirst-quenching needs are met.
The premiere KwaZulu-Natal décor and design exhibition provides creative opportunities for imaginative interior masterpieces and this year is no different. Four designers will be unleashed within the new Décor District by where they will fashion four exceptional room settings.
The Decorex Trend House reinforces Decorex SA as leaders in décor and design trends. Each room of this home scape will be transformed using relevant @Home furnishings, providing a pragmatic and visual representation of the 2017 trends.

Decorex SA is not only endorsed by Kitchen Specialists’ Association of South Africa (KSA) but they also welcome the leaders in the kitchen world, Franke, who will be showcasing four ‘Simplicity in Design’ Kitchen Trends-sponsored stands at the 2017 edition.

Such a depth of creative talent deserves to be shared which is why the 2017 Decorex Durban has introduced a fully-equipped Bloggers Lounge. It will be here that the leading décor and design trendsetters can enjoy a cup of their favourite Illy coffee while crafting inspired blog pieces for those who can’t make the annual pilgrimage.

Don't miss out on the one day only Pop Up Night Market, taking place at the Durban Exhibition Centre on Monday, 20 March from 3pm to 8pm.

African Roots Coffee

I first heard about and tasted African Roots Coffee when we received a bag of their Tanzanian beans from the Coffee Magazine’s Discover Great Coffee Club in September 2015. We (my husband and I) subsequently chatted to the owner, Mark Platt, at that years Good Food & Wine Show in Durban.

The next time I saw Mark Platt was when he was promoting his coffee at the wonderful Hillcrest Kwikspar. We had a long chat and he was very excited to tell me about his coffee shop that was going to be situated at the new Pearls Mall, Pearls of Umhlanga. Well his dream has come true and the new coffee shop opened in December 2016.

It is a beautiful double volume space with inside and outside seating. The upper area has some lovely comfortable couches and chairs and it looks like a great spot to relax and chat. They serve the following exclusive coffees : Burundian Bukeye, Kenyan Blue Mountain, Rwandan Nano Lot Gankeke, Zimbabwe Farfell, Ethiopia Limu and Rwandan 3 African Sisters. Speciality teas are also available and the menu consists of light breakfasts and lunches. Most of the foods are artisanal and some of the suppliers are Smith’s Bakeshop, Madeleine’s and Glenwood Bakery.

I have been to the coffee shop twice. The first time my husband and I stopped to have a cappuccino before going to breakfast at the Oyster Box Hotel. On my next visit I was accompanied by Inge Loker (Snap, Sizzle & Cook) on a very hot and humid day. We immediately ordered a refreshing Pour Over Iced Coffee. After perusing the menu we both decided to order the Roast Vegetable Frittata. While we waited for our breakfast we had a good look at the coffee available to purchase and the pretty cups on display on the shelves below the stairs. It was a lovely visit and we ended it off by enjoying more coffee (of course). Looking forward to the next time I am in the area and to another great cup of coffee.

African Roots Coffee is a fabulous addition to the coffee shop scene and is well worth a visit. A big plus is that it is very close to the beach, lighthouse and pier; so you can stop for coffee on your way back from taking a stroll.

Umhlanga Arch will be King of the Hill

When you get an invitation to a launch held at the beautiful Oyster Box Hotel, you can only say YES! Not only to see and experience the hotel at night but also to discover what next to expect in Umhlanga.

Umhlanga is booming and it is crazy to think that just over 20 years ago all that could be seen was sugar cane. Now everywhere you look there are new and exciting developments being built to cater for the growing and moving population.

The launch of the 1.3 billion rand Umhlanga Arch was held in the Pearl Room of the Oyster Box hotel. It was a warm and breezy evening and we (my husband and I) were warmly welcomed by the staff and I even got to take a photo of the star of the Oyster Box Hotel - Skabenga the cat.

Love the poofy tummy

The people in attendance were from the media, construction, construction related industries, investors and a few well known faces such as Shaun Pollock, John Smit and Darren Maule. The MC for the evening was the very entertaining Matthew Pierce who is very good with accents and knows how to tell a story correctly.

A one-of-a-kind development to hit Durban shores, Umhlanga Arch is proudly introduced by The Multiply Group, a Durban-based global investment company offering access to proprietary transactions on the African continent. The Group has a 30% stake in Imbewu Capital Partners, a company founded by CEO Gcina Zondi some 11 years ago, and an encouraging example of what can be achieved with skill, hard work, and integrity. Led by CEO Craig Coombe, The Multiply Group is also a major investor in technology, with a focus on changing the lives of people across the continent through improving the ease of transacting, and seeing more communities connected and served in the business-to-business and business-to-consumer spheres.

Prominently positioned on the slopes of Umhlanga’s Ridgeside, this R1.3 billion development is one of the largest mixed-use developments in the province and will undoubtedly bolster tourism, stimulate investment into the region, further elevate Umhlanga and greater Durban to a world-class standing, and facilitate significant job creation.

Not only has Umhlanga Arch already sold 80% of the residential component prior to launching to the public, but it has also already attracted R350 million in foreign investment to the region, confirmed an international hotel operator, and engaged with a number of the country’s top retail brands.

The design began with the unique arch providing the gateway into this premier people-centred development, and is divided into four key components; upmarket offices, first-class retail, a superior hotel, and contemporary apartments. It will offer everything you need in one location, including some trendy restaurants.

Expect the likes of a concierge service that will handle your laundry and deliver your groceries, a high-tech business centre to host meetings, a well-recognised gym, top-end retail stores, a leading car dealership, and a premium 4-star hotel,” shares Terry Rosenberg, Chairman of The Multiply Group.

He continues, “Umhlanga Arch is going to be a place where you can live a full, productive day without having to venture from your address. Our vision for this development was to create a lifestyle for emerging entrepreneurs, serious business people who are trying to establish a balanced home/work lifestyle, and those individuals who frequent this area and aspire to live within it”.

What makes our region so exciting? Take a look at these facts:

*CNN voted Durban/Ethekwini as one of the world’s most underrated cities;
*Durban Harbour is the busiest shipping terminal in Sub-Saharan Africa, with 4500 commercial vessels per year moving 74 million tonnes of cargo;
*The Ethekwini Municipality has one of the best credit ratings in the Municipal sector (A1+ short term and AA- long term);
*The City has an unqualified auditor report;
*Has laid 2000km of broadband fibre;
*The DubeTradeport, now a special economic zone with real corporate benefits, is ideally positioned for new generation manufacturing, warehouse, logistics and distribution. It has a capacity to handle 100 000 tonnes of cargo and is located 45-minutes from the city and port.
*At 3.7km long the King Shaka International Airport runway can accommodate the world’s largest aircraft with meaningful excess capacity to handle over 5 million passengers. Don’t forget we’re on the route to the East (one of the markets with the highest potential for us) as well as the Gateway to Africa.
*Knight Frank International Residential City Index 2016 placed Durban in the first position for residential investment performance for the whole of Africa, and one of the top 50 cities globally.

It's impossible not to be impressed by Umhlanga Arch's premium sea views which encompasses Kwazulu-Natal's beautiful coastline, emerald landscape and sunny blue skies. With its iconic arch and commanding architectural style Umhlanga Arch is set to become the pinnacle of urban sophistication and a symbol of this exclusive area's enviable lifestyle.

Epitomising the live-work-play ethos envisioned for Umhlanga Ridgeside, the dynamic Umhlanga Arch offering will be further enhanced by vast open spaces, a myriad of leisure activities, walkways, pedestrian bridges and cycling trails that will become synonymous with the precinct. Modern convenience, cutting edge technology and impeccable luxury are hallmarks of the Umhlanga Arch offering, allowing well-heeled residents to keep moving, stay focused and define their realm.

Umhlanga Arch offers 162 two, three and four bedroom apartments and 30 loft apartments. Select the fully serviced option and have your home cleaned without lifting a finger. The latest technology forms the central nervous system of life at Umhlanga Arch. From communicating with the concierge to arranging parking for a guest, specifically designed systems and applications will ensure, no matter where you are, you are always connected. The "Smart-ready" apartments will ensure that security, temperature and lighting can be remotely controlled from any smart device.
