On a very windy Tuesday night inside the refurbished Haystore building in Durban, the KZN Fashion Council welcomed the latest addition to their family of world-class fashion brands.
The MC for the glittering evening was the beautiful and talented Nomzamo Mbatha who stood out from the crowd in a bright orange jumpsuit designed by Khosi Nkosi.

Africa Fashion Exchange, born and bred in KZN and on-trend the world over, is where fashion sense and passion meets business savvy. The name itself - ‘Africa Fashion Exchange’ speaks of something that begins here in our own backyard of KwaZulu-Natal and transcends boundaries to bring our majestic Africa together, under one roof. It will give KZN, South African and African designers a platform to access national, continental and international markets.
Zola Shabangu Chairperson of the KZN Fashion Council (fashionista in chief) is looking forward to hosting select designers from across the continent. The Africa Fashion Exchange has been created to help designers become globally competitive, to provide them with a platform and to highlight our beautiful province of KwaZulu-Natal. She is excited about the prospect of providing mentorships, collaborations and to create jobs. The platform will provide an arena for business to business meetings. The Africa Fashion Exchange is the showcase for our unique African fashion.

Fashion has an important role to play in the economic development of KZN. It is an industry that can never die as it is a need. Africa Fashion Exchange is more than just a fashion show as all aspects of the business of fashion are encompassed.
We were treated to a short fashion show from various designers attached to the KZN Fashion Council. The men’s wear was all by the fashion designer Duke who was born and raised in the Umlazi Township of Durban. Ladies fashion was by emerging designers who are doing the 21 Steps to Retail with the KZN Fashion Council.
Palesa Kwitshana the new Managing Director of the KZN Fashion Council revealed the logo for Africa Fashion Exchange. She re-iterated about fashion being a passion and how she is looking forward to promoting our African fashion to the world.
